Multifunctional, Wearable, and Wireless Sensing System via Thermoelectric Fabrics

Xinyang He,Jiaxin Cai,Mingyuan Liu,Xuepeng Ni,Wendi Liu,Hanyu Guo,Jianyong Yu,Liming Wang,Xiaohong Qin

Engineering doi: 10.1016/j.eng.2023.05.026

Abstract: Flexible thermoelectric materials play an important role in smart wearables, such as wearable power generation, self-powered sensing, and personal thermal management. However, with the rapid development of Internet of Things (IoT) and artificial intelligence (AI), higher standards for comfort, multifunctionality, and sustainable operation of wearable electronics have been proposed, and it remains challenging to meet all the requirements of currently reported thermoelectric devices. Herein, we present a multifunctional, wearable, and wireless sensing system based on a thermoelectric knitted fabric with over 600 mm·s−1 air permeability and a stretchability of 120%. The device coupled with a wireless transmission system realizes self-powered monitoring of human respiration through an mobile phone application (APP). Furthermore, an integrated thermoelectric system was designed to combine photothermal conversion and passive radiative cooling, enabling the characteristics of being powered by solar-driven in-plane temperature differences and monitoring outdoor sunlight intensity through the APP. Additionally, we decoupled the complex signals of resistance and thermal voltage during deformation under solar irradiation based on the anisotropy of the knitted fabrics to enable the device to monitor and optimize the outdoor physical activity of the athlete via the APP. This novel thermoelectric fabric-based wearable and wireless sensing platform has promising applications in next-generation smart textiles.

The main achievements in the past 24 years and the prospects of mechanism research in China

ZOU Hui-jun, ZHANG Long, ZHANG Qing

Frontiers of Mechanical Engineering 2006, Volume 1, Issue 3,   Pages 249-259 doi: 10.1007/s11465-006-0038-7

Abstract: Since 1982, the symposiums on mechanism in China has been held fifteen times. In the past 24 years, Chinese mechanism has experienced a phenomenal development. Generally, fundamental research on traditional mechanisms is enhanced; mechanism and creative design of products are closely combined; modern mechanism with advanced and new technology is opened up; and mechanism is promoted to modernization. These are manifested in the following aspects: theory research on analysis and synthesis of traditional mechanism is deeply developed; computer-aided design on mechanisms is realized vigorously; conceptual design of mechanism system and mechanical products is energetically pushed; research on robot mechanisms and its industrial application is deeply developed; research on analysis and synthesis of controllable mechanisms and compliant mechanisms are energetically carried out; research on the dynamics of mechanisms and machines is vigorously developed; and reformation of teaching contents and system of mechanism is energetically carried out. Through the above-mentioned aspects of theory research and practical application, the theoretical and academic levels of Chinese mechanism can be considered at the advanced international level. However, there are not many original and breakthrough research achievements of fundamental research in China. In the meantime, there is a larger gap in the aspect of practical application of mechanism in the country compared with advanced countries in the world.

Effects of Decoction on plasma proteome in cirrhosis: preliminary experimental study with rats

LIU Jie, WANG Jiyao, WEI Liming, LU Ye, Jin Hong

Frontiers of Medicine 2008, Volume 2, Issue 1,   Pages 39-44 doi: 10.1007/s11684-008-0008-z

Abstract: The aim of this paper is to study the effects of Decoction on the plasma proteome in cirrhotic rats. Twenty-six male Sprague-Dawley (SD) rats were randomly divided into three groups: cirrhotic model group ( = 10), treated with CCl (CCl/olive oil: v/v = 1:1); Decoction intervention group ( = 10), treated with CCl+ Decoction; and normal control group ( = 6), treated with olive oil only. After 8 weeks, blood samples were collected from the inferior vena cava to undergo bi-dimensional electrophoresis (2DE) and analysis by PDQuest 7.3 software. Differential protein spots were cut, enzyme hydrolysis was conducted, and peptide fragments extracted from the mixture underwent mass spectrometry (MS) with MALDI-TOF-TOF-MS. The liver fibrogenesis was assessed using a digital image analysis instrument of Masson’s trichrome stained sections. The fibrosis area of the Decoction was (8.9 ± 3.7)%, significantly smaller than that of the cirrhotic model group [(12.4 ± 4.7)%, < 0.05]. Ten markedly changed protein spots were identified by MALDI-TOF-TOF-MS. Eight of the 10 proteins, including plasma glutathione peroxidase, plasma glutathione peroxidase precursor, prealbumin, haptoglobin, apolipoprotein A-IV precursor, complement C4, inter-alpha-inhibitor H4 heavy chain, and serine/threonine-protein kinase microtubule-affinity regulating kinase 1 (MARK1) were expressed very lowly in the cirrhotic model group while they were expressed highly in the Decoction group. The expression of liver regeneration-related protein LRRG03 and vimentin increased in the cirrhotic model group, and reduced in the Decoction group. Some proteins related to oxidative stress, cell proliferation and transformation have changed in the plasma of cirrhosis induced by CCl. Decoction promotes protein synthesis and plays an anti-fibrotic role by anti-oxidation and accommodation of cell proliferation and transformation.
